The Collins C. Diboll Private Foundation

A Private Charitable Foundation

The Collins C. Diboll Private Foundation

Collins C. Diboll

COLLINS DIBOLL was a very well known and well liked figure in his hometown of New Orleans.  Collins was known as a prominent architect and business man.  He was equally well known for his love of good food, good friends and good times.  However, Collins' penchant for philanthropy was not known to most people during his life.

He was very private about his charitable giving during his lifetime, so perhaps many people, even those who knew him well, were surprised when he left the bulk of his estate to form the Collins C. Diboll Private Foundation at his death in 1987.  Since that time, The Foundation has distributed more than $13 million to charities.  As his trustees, we came to realize that, today, far more people are aware of Collins Diboll's philanthropy than of Collins' life as a man.

Collins didn't prepare very well to have a biographical sketch written about him posthumously.  He didn't leave diaries or memoirs or even very good files.  However, with the help of Dr. Nicholas Bloom, Associate Professor of History at New York Institute of Technology, we offer a biographical sketch of Collins Diboll himself.

Now people who never knew Collins will have some sense of the man he was.  We hope they will also see that Collins continues to improve the world in which he lived.
